  • SPAN170 Intro to Basque Studies: An Angelino Approach

    UCLA

Introduction to Basque studies discipline. Students learn basics of discipline; particularities of Basque case; and intricate relationship of Basques with America, specifically in western U.S. One goal is to find answers for questions such as who Basques are and how Basque diaspora can be defined. Another goal is to revisit lesser-known but critical contributions of Basque migrants to emerging city of Los Angeles. This approach is used to define questions related to identity and cross-cultural communities. This perspective takes Los Angeles as point of departure to think about these issues. Covering cultural topics and expressions that include literature, urban studies, cinema, music, and art, study sets dialectical focus on Basque case from cultural studies perspective.
